Seeing Jamiroquai

On Monday night I went to see Jamiroquai. It was a surprise from Tomas. He told me the day before and was holding it a surprise since the beginning of October. Tomas usually opens his mouth to tell me surprises cause he gets excited. But this time, he did good. That was awfully sweet. Thanks for the great show, Tomas. :)

So, it's 5:30 and I walk over to the Nokia theather at the MTV building. I saw that a lined had formed already, so I was just in time. Later Tomas arrives and we waited on line for 2 hours and in the rain, mind you. But I was fine with it. Soon I would be groving with Jay Kay and lost in his music.

Two hours pasted and it was time to enter the building. It was 7pm and the show didn't start til 9pm. So there was another two hour wait inside. But that was okay. I was thrilled to be there. We found a spot and I stood there for 2 hours till the show started.

The inside of the theater was like a dance hall. There was a stage then a large dance floor, then seats in the back, with balcony seating area. There was a VIP section on both sides of the stage.

As I looked at the microphone stand, I could see that I would get a good view of him while he sang. And surely I did. (See photo by LJ)

So we waited two hours for the show. I was looking at the many faces that came to see Jamiroquai. I didn't realize so many people liked him. I never really hear people talk about him like he's hot. But he is indeed. I remember an ex-boyfriend saying he hated Jamiroquai. Well, I got rid of him. If you can't dig Jay Kay, then you won't dig me. Be gone!

So, the show is about to start and this chick I was watching earlier...cause she cut in front of me before, was now trying to get a spot in front of me. I put a stop to it by confronting her. She said she wasn't trying to, but I pointed out that she just did and that she got in front of the girl that was next to me as well. No one else said anything...perhaps cause she looked scarey and very dike looking, but I didn't care. No one was going to get in front of me after I spent 2 hours standing in that spot. F that! Not while I'm waiting to see Jamiroquai, god damn it!

So now, the show was about to start. I held on to my hands and kept looking at the stage. The band members came out one by one and started playing their instruments. And then...JAY KAY!! WOO HOO!!

I turned around to Tomas, while jumping with excitement..."Jamiroquai! Jamiroquai!! I could not believe after all these years of listening to him, I was actually seeing him live. A few feet away from me, stood Jay Kay and his band. I was in heaven.

I turned around and noticed all the faces that were there with me. They were all into Jamiroquai as I was. Had I found a new family? Did I find people who understand the love I have for Jay Kay and the band?

Yes. Yes I did.

Surprised at the love he was receiving, Jay Kay took it all in. He was happy. And so was I. I was loving the moment. "I'm so close. Sooo close. Is he looking at me yet? Is he?"

When he started to sing his songs, the girl in front of me started to jump up and down. She was in my way a bit and I had become annoyed with her as well. I started to wonder if I was going to enjoy the show or get thrown out because I was going to pull her hair down and step on her. So I tried my best to stay calm. Tomas pulled on my arm at times cause he knew I was on the edge of attacking a dumb bitch that night. Poor Tomas, I think I scare him sometimes when I get mad at people. But, again, I stayed calm and focused on Jay Kay.

He sang 14 songs that night. I sang the words to some of them and at times I could have sworn he saw me sing to his songs. But with the girls in front of me getting his attention, I was sure that he would spot me right next to them. Ha. I think he did. (hee hee) Right before the show, I was talking to the girls and they told me that they had just seen him the night before. They told him about their tattoo and the camera man that works with Jay Kay filmed it. So they are on his video showing off their Jamiroquai tattoo. "Ahh...that's brillant. A sure way to get back stage and up close with Jay." I turned to Tomas and said to him, "Those bitches....." So Later after Jay took a break from 2 songs to talk to his fans, he looked over to the girls and started to smile at them and laugh. Apparently they were making him blush a bit. Or maybe laugh. They were being silly and annoying. At least to me. The night before, the girls said they threw condoms at Jay and Jay said..."Yeah, I didn't get a chance to use 'em yet..." And he shook his head.

So since the girls in front of me were so animated, the camera man got them on camera alot. And of course, yours truely was right there. I should be on his video for sure. HA HA HAAA!

Look, I love the guy's music. That's what it's all about for me.

Riiiiight....

So, I truely enjoyed the show. He was so cool and his voice was real. He can really sing live very well. He sounds just like he sings on CD. He's got talent. He dances nice. He's very creative. And he's so adorable. I honestly think he's humble and is happy to see how everyone loves him. He didn't think NY would welcome him. But he was wrong. Although, there were foreignors there. Chicks from London here and there. So does that make it truely NY?

He had back up singers that were great. And his band memebers played their music with passion.
Every now and then, I tried to give props to the singers. They needed love too.

If only I could sing. *sigh*

In the end, everyone left the theater and started their way to the coat check, which was a nightmare. The crew began the clean-up shortly after the room was clear. I have never seen so many people at a coat check line before. It was another hour before we would leave. Making it 8 hours of standing. 2 hours outside, 2 hours inside before the show. 2 hours with Jamiroquai. (*sigh*) And 1 hour standing for our coats. Getting our coats only to find out it was not ours...priceless.

Ha ha...actually, it was our coats. So when we got outside, it was still raining. All of a sudden, I started to feel sick. My stomach was turning on me and I was feeling nausous. We walked into Duane Reade and I bought some selzer water. I drank some of it and was feeling better about a half hour later. It was taking a long time for the train to come and I was starting to worry that I wouldn't make it home on time. When the train came, I manage to keep myself calm and made it home nice and safe. I was in bed by 1 in the morning. The next day, I was tired. But I did not regret it for one moment. I had seen Jay Kay the night before. I could not be more happier on a Monday cause on Mondays I am an angry women. Who likes Mondays? Really. But I was happy all day on Monday. I was ready to leave work to stand on line. Damn it, I should have left at 4pm. I would have gotten the very first row and avoided the bouncing bitch with bad BO. Oh...did I not mention that the girl had B.O.? Yes, she sure did. I think she had a bad case of body BO and ass BO. That combination can be deadly. But again, I focused on Jay Kay.

Well, now I'm getting tired here. I might come back to say a little more about my night, but, by the looks of this post, I think you've read enough. Jamiroquai is a cool band. Very funky music and a talented team. Give them some love. Listen to their music and let it get you out of your funk. It has helped me for years whenever I was down and depressed. The other day, it actually helped me get to the gym and workout hard. I wish I could tell Jay this to his face. Tell him how his music has inspired me and has made me feel like I can do anything. It makes me feel positive. I just hope he continues his music and keeps it real.

Well, that's all for now.

Jamiroquai, thanks for the great show. Take care and good night!
