The Smiley Face

Before the smiley faces, we would type without the ":)" and somehow maybe just wrote in parenthesis...(I'm smiling at you...wink wink).

But now, alot of us write stuff and end it with a wink - ;) - or a smile - :) . People want others to know that they're saying something nice or being nice when they write. So most people today are catching on to this and making sure they end their notes with a smile.

So if you were to get a note from someone and say he or she writes...."Thank you for your kind words. :)" You would know that they're saying this in a nice way, as oppose to ...."Thank you for your kind words. " Cause that right there sounds like they are just saying it and not meaning it.

So....I wrote to someone to congratulate them on a promotion and all I got was..."Thanks." So I was like....Thanks? That's it? I mean, if I would have gotten a..."Thanks :)"... I would have felt better.

So is this neccessary now to write emails to each other and end it with winks or smiley faces? I mean, if I don't get one, will I then write back to you and say..."Thanks? That's it? You're so cold!"

Of course they'll be sitting at their desk wondering if they are dealing with a nut job...sure. But I think people need the smiley face and a wink to make them happy. I mean, I like the smile and the winks, I'll admit. It does make me.... smile. :)
