My last night with Angel. My acting teacher. I waited to take my last class until I was ready to perform. And having gone to the audition on saturday, I was still on my high. So I went to class, he sees me and says, "Nice to see you again, " and we start our class. It was a small group and so we were gonna have alot of time to do things. He decided that we were going to improve that night. So instead of telling us a story line and then we start, we were to start a story by using the position we were in. So if I were standing on one foot and holding my head, I would probably start off by hopping and then dropping the leg down and say, “OH MY FREAKING HEAD HURTS!” And then we would improv from there. Just as long as I start the improv in the position so that it makes sense to the audience.
So last night I did two improves with Wil. Finally for the first time I had the pleasures of working with someone who kept it going and didn’t just stand there and say nothing. I would usually be the one jumping around and trying, but sometimes you need someone to help you and you feed off of them as they throw a lot your way for you to work with. He was great. And in the end, our teacher said to us that we did a great job. He used us to show everyone else how it should be done. I was thinking that Wil and I better do a good job cause we were his oldest students. And so we not only entertained everyone, but we entertained ourselves. And we were both natural. It helps when two people are comfortable. And in this business, you have to let down your guard, which isn’t easy for me to do. You have to trust that your partner will be right behind you and he was. Too bad it’s my last class. I would love to work with him again.
So I ended my last class with my teacher, giving me a progress report. And he said I have come along way and have done very well in his class and that he enjoyed having me there. He was also proud that I auditioned, after hearing me tell him that I only went to experience it and understand it. He said I should be proud of myself. He said my improv was great and that I was in the moment and he was very pleased with it. The potential is there.
Well, it’s been great being in class. I would say those were the nights were the real me came out. The excited kid inside me, you know?
