I use to work in a clothing store and I was a sales girl and also a cashier. So one day I would fold the clothes, the next day I would be on the register. I was always professional. "Customers are always right! Or, "Customers come first." If people were on your line, you would do everything to take care of them and get them off the line fast. Who wants to wait on a line with a slow cashier?
Today's cashier lack the knowledge of what customer service really means. They are slow, they whine and they're stupid. I feel this because? Today you are on a line and the cashier will take their time and they have attitude. I was buying gum one day and the girl did not know how much it was. She became frustrated and the scanner did not work on the item. She sucked her teeth, caught a fit and started to whine. I was standing there, with no time to waste here, and thought that what she needed to do was shut the hell up and figure out another way to r ing up my gum so I can freaking pay for it and get out of the store. I had somewhere to go and fast. I was annoyed with her and thought that maybe she was having a bad moment. But later that day, I went back and she was still whinning. Let's fired her ass.
I walked into a 5 and dime store to buy some tinsil for my tree. I approached the cashier counter and saw a lady waiting for a cashier. A worker comes along carrying a box and notices that no one is at the register. As she sucked her teeth, she said "Oh my god. Nobody is here? No body tooold me." She was a spanish girl somewhere in her late 20's. A little ghetto. She spent a good 3 minutes whinning about how no one told her the register was empty. The other sales girl was on the side moving slowly as she listened to the other chick whine. I was standing here thinking...."Ok, shut the %#*@% up and ring us up already!" I was seconds away from actually saying so, when she finally decided to say, "Ok, next. I'm open." I cut the lady who was waiting for me cause she moved too slow to the cashier. Do I need to hear how it pisses her off that no one told her? That she can't stand it and that that's not right? No. Let's do your job and shut up, then smile at me when you're done.
Today's cashiers get on my nerves, but only those who lack any customer service skills. Why aren't the managers training these people? Someone told me, "Lani, don't expect Bloomingdale service at a 5 and dime store." I said I wanted to be taken cared of right away. I expect the best. That's bullshit.

Today's Cashiers

It's bad enough when employees lack stanards, but then you encounter managers who set such low expectations. The result, unfortunately, is that there are no standards anymore.
My favorite is when two cashiers are at the counter making small talk with each other and one will hold up a finger and ask you to wait a moment while they finish their conversation. I can't tell you how often that's happened to me. Hmmm . . . I must be shopping in the wrong places . . . But where can you go where this doesn't happen?
